Newport-based Dance and Theatre company G Expressions turned 10 years old in November 2020; however due to the covid19 climate, celebrations were put on hold until a time where it was safe to celebrate with those who have walked this journey with us.
Over 3,000 visitors have to this date watched a GX show and over 100 dancers have passed through their doors in the past decade- On Friday 3rd September, all friends, families, neighbours, partner organisations, and funders have been invited to a night of laughter and nostalgia with plenty of new dance in between. Due to continued funding from ACW, G Expressions have developed sold out shows such as ‘Sisters Acting Up’ and ‘Romeo and Juliet from the street’, as well as dance programmes such as STOMP, a national dance competition. They have also developed the ‘Dance Leaders’ Programme which is a professionally accredited programme for young dancers to learn and develop leadership skills. Having recently partnered with the University of South Wales their professional dance studio has now become home to dancers from across South Wales.
G Expressions has become a cornerstone for the Newport creative community for engaging with many ages and abilities. The youngest students being 8 to the adult professional tutors that are still learning new and exciting things. Its tutors have toured the world, played in shows, been on tv, and featured on multiple music videos, and even set up their own professional practices across the country.
The founding members and staff will be joined by their family and closest friends for a celebration of Expression and Creativity and you are invited to come and join them in for a night of laughter and memories celebrating the success stories and listening about the hilarious trials and tribulations of being a creative company here in Wales.
The Covid 19 Pandemic has created many hurdles for young people and creative practitioners that make up the Newport-based Dance and Theatre Company, however they have succeeded in delivering online training during lockdowns and have recently reopened their dance space with the latest restrictions applied.
